The Boeing Fa18 is a supersonic combat jet which first
entered service in 1983. The Fa18 can be used in both air to air and air to
ground combat which make it effective for escorting planes and taking out
ground defences. The Fa18 is designed to be used on air craft carriers which
makes popular with the US Navy and Marines.
The Fa18 has
a top speed of 1190 MPH which is 1.8 times the speed of sound. The US military
also use Fa18 hornets in its display team the Blue angels as their primary
display aircraft. The Fa18 has been criticized for its lack of range and
payload ability. The Fa22 a more stealthy fuel efficient aircraft is being
build which is said to replace the Fa18.
